Loose Diamonds Prices

Loose diamond will be assessed and priced no different than diamonds that are set in jewelry. When determining the value of a diamond, many people like to refer to what is called “The 4 C’s of Diamonds”. This stands for cut, color, clarity, and carat. I mentioned above that expert diamond graders assess a variety of characteristics to place a price on a diamond, and this is likely where they would start. Below is some more information on the four characteristics.

The 4 C’s of Diamonds

Cut
Not to be mistaken for the shape of a diamond, the cut is actually how proportionate a diamond is along with its symmetry and polish. The cut is graded on a scale of poor to excellent in three categories, brilliance, fire, and scintillation.

Color
White diamonds are graded on a scale from D – Z, with D being the whitest and diamonds with a yellow tint appearing lower on the list depending on how much of a tint they possess. For the most part, the whiter the diamond, the higher the price.

Clarity
The GIA (Gemologists Institute of America) uses 11 different grades to rate the clarity of diamonds. A diamond’s clarity is based on the amount and significance inclusions or blemishes. Inclusions are internal while blemishes are external but neither should be visible to the naked eye.

Carat
Carats are a unit of weight used when determining the value of a diamond. One carat is equal to .2 grams. Although the weight of a diamond is important to determining its value, the diamond must still grade highly on the cut, color and clarity scales as well, for it to be valuable.

Where Can I Sell Loose Diamonds?

So now that you know how your loose diamond will be priced, you should also know how to earn even more cash for diamonds. Selling loose diamonds to a pawnshop is usually the first thought that pops into one’s mind, but then it is followed shortly after by the thought of having a pawnshop give you very little in return for your diamonds. With the Internet becoming more prevalent every day, more businesses are appearing online that can provide us with a level of convenience or another competitive edge over the usual competition. This is the case with online diamond buyers. Below are two that we highly recommend using. These diamond buyers pay more money than pawnshops and have all the resources to complete to difficult process of assessing diamonds shown above.
